Yakov Rekter

Yakov Rekhter holds MS in Physics from St Petersburg University, Russia, MS in Computer Science from New York University and PhD in Computer Science from Polytechnic University.

He has been with IBM since 1984 and is currently a Research Staff Member and a manager of Open System Architecture group at TJ Watson Research Center.

Yakov Rekhter was one of the leading architects, as well as a major software developer, of the NSFNET Backbone Phase II.

He is one of the leading designers of the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) and the Inter-Domain Routing Protocol (ISO10747).

Present activities include work on Classless Inter-Domain Routing (CIDR), work with the Unified Appproach to Inter-Domain Routing, work on the Routing Arbiter, work on supporting transparent host mobility in connection less network layer protocols, and work on supporting IP over Fibre Channel subnetworks.
